Last December, I was pleased to exhibit my work in Lapnet Ship, Tokyo.
About fifty prints were exposed, some being a preview of my forthcoming picture book.
A corner was also dedicated to Patapon 2, visitors being able to make wild multiplayer games.
Here is a small outline.

For this occasion a series of postcards reproducing most of the artworks exposed was printed (postcards with metallic print, spot varnish & silver foil)

I would like to thank Interlink, Medicom, Domestic, SCEJ & Pyramid for their help and support (for the beautiful flowers too!).
I would also like to thank the numerous people who came.
I was really moved by how enthusiastically the exhibition was welcomed.
That’s truly given me the desire to try this adventure again this year :)

I really enjoy comic books, I’ve read thousands of those…
It was one of my dreams to draw one, but except small incursions and other tries, I never really took the plunge.
Until one of my “Heroes”, a famous French comics artist and also “directeur de collection” of one of the biggest French comics editor called me :
"Hi Rolito, if you have a pen, some paper and a computer I would like you to create your own comics".
I let you imagine my mood after this phone call. :)
I thus restarted one of my old projects: U.U.U.
In complicity with Run, we drew a storyboard and a few pages.
Because one of my other projects is engrossing all my time, this one is going forward very slowly.
U.U.U belongs to these projects which are really important to me, but should not be “finished” before a long time.
Even if I continue to work on it (in a very erratic way) I still do not know whether in the end it will be a Comic book or Picture Book…
Wait & see:)

From my last trip to Tokyo, I brought back a vinyl figure produced by the famous Japanese company called Marmit (thanks Don!).
This beautiful & mysterious figure is based on one of the DOGU (pronounced dough-goo) clay idol from the Jomon Japanese period (10 000 BC - 400 B.C ).
There are many theories on what they were used for. A talisman for good health or safe childbirth, goddesses’ representation, toys for children, funerary offerings, or objects used in some unknown ritual.
As you can see on the illustration (second picture), some people think that this Dogu strange figurine represent some "strange visitor" with space suit :).
I love this figure, we are really far away from all the "designer toys" frenzy production and that's a good point :).

In addition to the world model pieces of world heritage built with Lego, the content “Love People” is included this time showing art messages from international artists from various fields. The theme is “my treasure to be carried down in the future”.

Three years ago, my good friend Shin initiated me into the works of Yuzo Kato (1950-2001), especially the small plastic toys he designed for Glico candies in the nineties.
A wonderful little book called TOYBOX OF GLICO (first edition in 2002) focuses on those beautiful, simple & elegant toys.
Grab one if you can!
I really love them, especially the animals & insects (beetles are amazing), if you have the chance to go to Nakano Broadway, you can find some of these little gems in one of the Mandarake shops dedicated to vintage Japanese candy toys.

TOY SAVES CHILDREN

For the third consecutive year, I'm very happy to take part into the TOY SAVES CHILDREN Exhibition, planned & developped by my good friends Tei & Aiko from Furi Furi.
The show takes place from November 28 to December 16 in Singapore as part of Utterubbish during the Singapore Design Festival.
